Hi,
Has anyone used a Dentist while in Budapest. I'm considering getting an implant.
Hi Erich,
In Rick's Budapest guidebook under "Helpful Hints" in the "Overview" section, Rick mentions a "private, pricey, English-speaking clinic" called FirstMed Centers. Their website, www.firstmedcenters.com, does list a partner dentist: https://firstmedcenters.com/preferred-partners/. If you are hiring a local guide while in Budapest, or if you've already got your hotel booked, you might try asking the local guide or hotel reception to see if they have any dentist recommendations for you.
I get all my dental work done in Budspest. Have for years. I've been to three different clinics over the years and all three were top notch. I would book in advance and look for a place that doesnt rely completely on tourist trade. For implants you might look at Amelo Dental. http://amelo.hu. Good folks. One of their doctors has been taking care of me for years. The will be doing an implant for me next year. But they tell me it's a 3 step process and not a one day affair.
Oh, and I have been to First Med. By local standards, pretty expensive. By US standards about a two thirds to half the cost. Wasnt aware they did dental work. My significant other had a minor surgical procedure performed and the quality of the care and service was amazing.
Dental care is a huge industry in Hungary. Many Austrians and other Europeans go there for treatment. Lots of places in Sopron, which is on the Austrian border.
Thank you for the help! I will be there for about a week and considered getting it done. And if i have to go back for an additional visit, it sounds like the savings will pay for the trip. I'm also considering Belgrade, Serbian or Kotor, Montenegro, if anyone has any dental experience there?
I replied in your other thread. I would without a doubt choose Hungary.
Getting a dental implant is a multistage process and will probably involve a wait of months between the first two steps. As I understand it a titanium post is inserted in your jaw to support the implant tooth. The jawbone needs to heal around the post and that takes time, often six months or so.
My dentist said 3 to 4 months between stages
The savings in Budapest will pay for the plane tickets, not sure about accommodations, but I'm fortunate enough to have a place to stay for very little cost. It's a great way to partially or completely fund a trip to an amazing city.
James E.: I had a single implant last year. After numbing me up, it took 6-7 minutes to drill and install the implant. It has to heal for 4 months or so before an abutment is screwed into the implant. The third step would be a crown on the abutment which is a 2 visit thing. The prices charged for a simple implant in the U.S. is simply ridiculous--$2250/$850/$850 for the stages at our local oral surgeon.
Medical tourism is a big business in Budapest, and their dentists have the same equipment we have and are very well trained. EasyJet hauls many from the U.K. over to Budapest for treatments.
David, I've been getting my dental work done in Budapest for close to 10 years. So cheap I am embarrassed to admit it. And excellent doctors and clinics.
Thank you for the help.
i'm traveling there in about a week. James i tried emailing your dentist, but haven't heard back. Do you have any other recommendations? Thanks
Sorry to hear that. This is the clinic. It's as nice and modern anything you will find anywhere in the world. Their patients are either Hungarian or Swiss for the most part. I got the impression that I was one of few Americans, but I didn't want a tourist dentist so that's good.
Still, the cost savings almost pay for the plant ticket over.
A few months back they tried to repair a crown, but since they didn't think it would last ... no charge. I'm going to need to get an implant and I will return there for it.
Just pick up the phone and make an appointment.
