My airport and train transfer driver quoted me 25.000HUF for both trips combined. I assume it means 25,000 with a comma, not a period, by US standards.

Right! Periods separate thousands, commas separate cents. So 12.345,67 = 12,345.67

Okay. For others then:

A Taxi from the airport is about 10.000 forints to most of Districts V, VI and VII. ($27)
The airport bus is 2.200 forints unless you are 65 or older in which case it is free. ($6)
A taxi to the train starion might be 4.000 to 5.000 forints depending on where your hotel is located. ($11 to $14).

And private transfer is great too. The guy I have used is something less than 40 euro from the airport, which is less than an airport taxi in most major cities. But, private transfers can't que at arrivals. They will walk you upstairs to the departure lane then run to the parking lot, get the car, then pick you up.

Or buy 10 tickets for 4000 forints which allows for 10 rides on metro, bus or tram - at the machine beside the Airport bus stop. Use two to get into town - one for bus 200E to metro station Köbánya Kispest then one for metro line 3. The rest you can use at your pleasure in town. That's how I get to our apartment in UjPest. Easy Peazy.

or for 5.500ft (about $4 more than 10 tickets) get a 72 hour unlimited pass, ride all you want.

or for 5.950ft get a 15 day pass (cheaper than buying a 72 hour and then a 24 hour)

If you are over 65 buy nothing, you ride for free.

If you are traveling in a group look at the 24 hour group passes. Do the math, they might work.

If you are using tickets, please properly validate them. If you are using any of the passes, no validation, just hop on and off and show it if you are ever asked. The fines are very high, so stay legal.
