Can the 24 or 72 hour transportation pass be purchased in paper form rather than digitally on the BudapestGO App? Also, am I correct in understanding that the pass does not require validation with each ride? I do understand that I'll need to have whatever ID I used when purchasing on my person whenever I use the pass - how about a TX driver's license?
thanks for the help - Jane
Yes, it can be purchased in paper form at a BKK office (there’s one handy at the airport if you are arriving that way).
It requires a beginning date: if buying in person, this is most likely the day you buy it (if not, let the person in the office know when you want it to start). But otherwise does not require validation - just presentation with ID if asked.
And yes, your TX DL will work (or did in my case).
I dont think the 24 hour and 72 hour passes require an ID number. But if they did a US drivers license would work. Do keep in mind that if the 72 hour isnt long enough (it should not be LOL), that the 15 day pass is only a few dollars more. But it does require an ID number. You can buy any of these from the machines at the metro and tram stops (many, not all) or at the airport arrivals hall BKK office or the train station BKK office in the lower level or the Deak Ferenc ter metro station BKK office. Also, if you are a typical RS person, then odds are good you are WELL over 65 and you need no pass.
No validation. Show it if asked. Or if over 65 look old and no one asks.
Many thanks to your prompt replies Mr. E and Texas Travel Mom.
I also appreciated your reminder post (yet again) of the necessity of validation. I watched a Stuffed Cabbaged YouTube video on the public transportation and it was helpful to see the "manual" validation technique. I don't think that is that obvious and might certainly frustrate tourists who are trying to follow the rules. It would definitely put a damper on your day if you got slammed with a fine.
Looking forward to discovering the beauty of Budapest!
That video I linked shows a manual one about 2/3 of the way through but dosesnt say much about it.
Here is one of the old boys in his shining glory. Put the ticket in the black thing at the top (look for correct direction on the ticket), the pull down on the black thing: https://budappest.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/11/manual_ticket_validator-521x586.jpg
Here is BKK's diagram for it: https://bkk.hu/static/content/2020/11/ticket_validation_main_picture.jpg
But since 98.7592% of RS forum users ride for free, does it really matter?
