The published dates are December this year for cars and August next year for pedestrians. But Hungarian public works take on a life of their own; so it could be (I would be willing to be it will be) much longer.

In the meantime there are workarounds.

Up River is the Margit híd (Margret Island Bridge) and Down River is the Erzsébet híd (Elizabeth Bridge). The Chain Bridge is pretty much half way between them.

On the Margit hid you can walk or take the 4/5 Tram across
On the Erzsebet hid you can walk or take the 47/49 Tram across

The two bridges are connected on the Pest side with the 2 Tram and the two bridges are connected on the Buda Side by the 19/41 Tram

There is also a public boat service that is 1500 forints per day: https://bkk.hu/en/travel-information/public-transport/boat-services/ There is not map, so in general it goes from Vigadó tér in Pest which is sort of the center of the Corso, up river to Margit Island, then back down river to Batthyány tér in Buda (almost directly across the river from the Parliament), then back to Vigadó tér.
