I saw a post today with concern about what to do Christmas Eve in Europe. The advice was there was nothing.
Well, thats not right. But you do have to be creative.
It hit home because I may have some family to Budapest for Christmas and while I know what I did last Christmas, I know we have a few others that have spent Christmas here or in similar locations and maybe they have some suggestions.
Here is what I came up with for both the 24th and 25th
- The Christmas markets will close about noon on the 24 till the 26th. https://youtu.be/y-rKQxTB6aA?si=UnSdlkIgmAzC7uTF and https://youtu.be/ju_RPbXMV7E?si=rA-BPYUQIr3vEZvA
- There are tour boats on the river, some with Christmas Eve Dinner (maybe Christmas day?) https://youtu.be/em_KRVf9LbQ?si=yxmwDhvfRX8DCbIk
- There are performances at the Opera House https://youtu.be/taoMYdBG5f8?si=9cwo8raYPW9QPfrt
- There are performances at the Operett Theater https://youtu.be/oZy_fTDzPKs?si=RJafq2mDNPv7HJq0
- More than half of the better restaurants in town will be open (one day or the other)
- A number of hotels have Christmas parties
- Gets dark early so a great day to look at christmas lights
- Public transportation is running so you can do tram tours of the lights
- Some of the bath houses are open (soak the day away) https://youtu.be/a01uKNLK1eM?si=Zenxr2gsVFxjvUD- City Park Ice Skating (pretty sure open on the 24th) https://youtu.be/QOas_bu7xCU?si=SJqGOujPJSl5TaXh
