My wife and I are staying 2 nights in Budapest. Any recommendations on a reasonable inexpensive hotel in a good location

It’s generally better to state a price point. How people define cheap or moderate etc can vary widely.

Thats a depender as we use to say.
If its two days I would see if the Marriott or the Intercontinental fits your budget. The reason being that with 2 days you arent going to be able to see much of the "interior" for lack of a better term and those two hotels, on the river front, will give you the most convenient access to reach most of the top sights quickly and efficiently so you get good use out of your time. And, the views across the river to Buda are stunning day and night.
Downside is they are sort of in the heart of Tourist Central and there is so much more to see; but not with 2 days. Third choice would be the Hotel Moments. Not on the river but 5 minutes away by metro and a short walk. Less expensive too and it does give you the opportunity to explore Andrassy ut which is a big plus.
To be honest, I wouldnt look beyond those three.
