Budapest jacket end of March

So as not to put the burden for EVERYTHING on Mr E (a godsend) - would a medium weight down puffer jacket seem silly? I have other options, all as functional and definitely not a runway look:) I have a medium weight rain shell with lots of pockets, a light quilted vest, a cashmere sweater, and an awesome travel umbrella. Thanks in advance.

The cashmere sweater with a long sleeve thermal, waterproof windbreaker and ski cap/ hat works Then your luggage doesn’t get puffed up with the puffer jacket.

Sure that works, then something mid weight and something lightweight to put under it and you are set for a pretty wide range of temperatures. The temps are pretty unpredictable in March. For instance the forecast is that we will start the month with a few 55F days. But the difference during the day can be from 40f to 60f and back to 40f by bed time. In Pest comfortable in Buda 5F cooler and along the river sometimes there is a good stiff breeze.

All sounds more than adequate. Especially for that walk from the Station.

Beautiful weather the last week. Some cooler and a little wetter weather coming. Rain days here are more like drizzle for a few hours than real rain. Just very, very rarely rains hard here. Those really cool low temperatures are in the morning before you wake up. And to be honest, after about 3 days out, the odds of the forecast being correct are pretty low.

Fri 07 / Partly Cloudy / 65° / 33°
Sun 09 / AM Clouds/PM Sun / 67° / 40°
Tue 11 / 49% chance of Showers / 60° / 42°
Thu 13 / Mostly Cloudy / 56° / 37°
Sat 15 / 48% chance of AM Showers / 49° / 35°
Mon 17 / Mostly Cloudy / 51° / 33°
Wed 19 / Partly Cloudy / 53° / 34°

Budapest has a remarkably arid climate, and March is among the driest of the months, so don’t worry too much about spring rain. The only month drier is February and May, June, July, August have more than two times the rain. If you travel light, every ABC (convenience store) will have an umbrella if you need one. I don’t even own one. I keep a few disposable ponchos and stick one in my pocket when I go out and questionable day. Our rains are also generally short lived and fairly light. So, it might be a problem for a few hours.

As for temperatures, things can vary widely in March. Early in the month it can be 25F before sunrise and not get above 40F. Late in the month it can be 40F before sunrise and near 70F during the warmest part of the day. Then early-March weather can happen in late-March and the other way around. On the river with the breeze that comes down the river it is colder, in Buda, in the hills, it is colder, Pest is generally warmer. So, yes, the down jacket is a good idea as are a few layers.

But it is generally a very clear and beautiful time of the year. I love the depth of the blue skies in March. One way to get an idea is to compare it to your city or another place you know well. Use this, and put your city in the "compare" blank: https://weatherspark.com/compare/y/84771/Comparison-of-the-Average-Weather-in-Budapest

Here is an unexpected summer. August 4. Current temperature 69, strong breeze, 20% humidity ... o am at an outdoor Ukrainian café and they are passing out blankets so people stay warm. In part because of the temp/wind/humidity and in part because the people are dressed for "summer".

This has been going on for weeks. I presume the same from Bucharest to Berlin.
