Budapest Hotels with a Child

My husband and I are planning a 2026 trip to visit Budapest and do some day trips throughout Hungary. I am beginning to do some preliminary research and am finding it challenging to confidently identify hotels that will easily accommodate myself, my husband, and my soon to be 6 year old. I am finding lots of rooms with single (two beds) or queen beds (just one), but very few that either have a second bed or say they can provide one for my child as well.

Can anyone shed any light on typical practices for hotels in Hungary? Will they provide a second bed for children on request? I appreciate the help!

No different than the rest of Europe. Most will give you a cot.

Go to the hotel website and read room descriptions. If you find a place you like and they don't address it, write or call.

Pretty good list of well located hotels here. https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/hungary/rs-forum-favorite-hotels-and-their-cost.

I checked 3 hotels on Booking.com, Medos and K×K and Hotel Moments all offer cots or a sofa bed. .

But if you are staying for a few weeks so you have the time for Budapest and the day trips, then maybe better to get a short-term rental. I would look in the same area as that list of hotels is located.

I totally missed this, but for space with a child, I recommend an apartment as well. I know a couple of good ones that might work (if available). But I am not up on hotels.

But make sure you tell the apartment owner / booking company about the child as some do not permit children. Also dont count on the same sort children safeguards in the apartment that you might have in your home or find in a hotel. You know things like lower cabinets with cans of toxic drain cleaner stored in it, and balconies with minimal railings and things like that. Then also watch for the floor. A lot of buildings dont have elevators and those that do, well some of those elevators are better than the Disney Haunted House ride. Keep in mind that a US first floor is their Second Floor. And that the climb to the first floor above the street level could easily be 20 feet vertical, thats maybe 40 steps.

But solving all those issues, yup, great idea for a kid/family. Maybe an apartment hotel?
