Budget? Preferences? Interests? A lot to choose from snd that would help narrow it down. But I will throw out some ideas:

Intercontinental and Marriott: both in the tourist zone, but both with stunning views across the river.

Hotel Moments and K+K Opera, both on Andrassy ut, one of the most enjoyable avenues in Europe. Also well connected to all the tourism.

Hotel Alice: on Andrassy, but further out. More B&B in character.

Thanks for this....we are 3/4 star kind of travelers...into "local cultural" experiences as well as "touristy" stuff....boutique type hotels vs big brands....we are limited on walking long distances to see "everything" so something central would be good (with no or few stairs)....now if this isn't more confusing I don't know what is....again thanks for your input....

Kiraly street , Stylish Apartment

I stayed here last October / November. It’s centrally located, close to metro stops, lots of restaurants close by, super helpful host and it’s a nice big clean quiet apartment.

Hey, Marco, I looked at that apartment recently and had a couple of questions. (I am always on the lookout for potential new places.)
1. Can you stand up straight in the upstairs loft? 2. Are there stairs up to the apartment itself or is there an elevator? 3. What floor is it on? I know where it’s located.
2. Thanks!

For hotels, in addition to the ones Mr. É listed, I haven’t stayed at the Callas House yet but have planned to twice. Like the K+K, it’s right beside the Opera House. Might be worth a look.

TexasTravelMom... I'm not sure, don't remember. The loft is basically the bed and a night table without much room to do anything else so other than being on the bed I didn't spend time up there. The bathroom and closet are downstairs. The apartment itself is on the ground floor.

The apartment is in District VII right across the street from the Rumpus Room Tiki Bar.

District VII besides being the home of the WWII Jewish Deportation Ghetto is also the evening party district for the under 30 crowd. The apartment is well situated for that, being nearly across the street from the entrance to the courtyard where a number of late night bars can be found.

The M1 Metro Opera stop and the 47/49 Tram stop at Deak Ferenc ter are less than a 10 minute walk (opposite directions).

A year ago we spent 3 nights at the Hotel Moments and were very pleased with the accommodations and location as well as the breakfast buffet.

Hello. Two weeks ago, we stayed in an Airbnb which was fabulous. Short walk to the Central Market, metro and many other sites. An excellent host. The view from the balcony was the best where we spent every evening. On Airbnb site it is titled Deluxe Riverside Panorama Apt.

I looked it up. Very nice. It's District V which has advantages and disadvantages, but that's personal preference. Its properly licensed as well.

Just in case some one is concerned about the oft quoted evils of short term rentals:

1 There is no housing shortage in Budapest. 90% of Hungarians live in a household in which one of the household members owns the dwelling, which is high for Europe.

2 This particular unit is in the heart of the tourist zone. A zone that has existed as such since communist days. So, no profound change since AirBnb was born.

3 To get a short term rental license the house rules must approve of short term rentals in the house, so the neighbors have a say.

4 Starting later this year every unit will be inspected for compliance with safety and quality requirements and will earn a 1, 2, 3 or 4 star rating. Don't count on many 4 star units as that requires daily maid service.

EDIT: AirBnb implies it's in District V. But the photos indicate that it is further down river in District IX. District IX isn't as convenient but the 2 Tram runs past the place and that may help. Write and get an address before you decide.

The Airbnb is on Belgrad street. A two-minute walk to the Central Market. You look down onto the Viking River Cruise dock. Yes, Tram 2 run in front of the apartment.
