Budapest Hotel (Hard Rock)

A few years back the Hard Rock Hotel opened. What is strange is for such a name brand they choose to build it in a fairly traditional area very near, but not on the tourist trail. Also surprising is that while it's nice, its not over the top. More of a boutique hotel than anything else. The location puts it sort of behind the Opera and the Operett theater with a short walk past some nice restaurants to Andrassy ut. The price for a date I checked in November is $165 to $1800 a night. I thought that was high until I checked the same date for the K&K Opera (sort of the middle of the road 4star near the Opera) which started at $145 and went up to $450 depending on the room. Boy rates are up in town. The K&K was about $115 a night for years. So the Hard Rock is $20 more and probably worth it. https://www.hardrockhotels.com/budapest/

I have found myself sitting at their patio facing O utca drinking a beer on a few occasions this trip.

There is a Hard Rock Cafe in town too, but that is on Vorsomarty ter in District V, near the river.

We avoid all Hard Rock cafes and hotels especially in another country. Why do you like them over local hotels?

Don't count on knowing the ownership of anything. Any assumption will probably be wrong. K+K hotels are owned by Goldman Sacs while the Hard Rock Cafe in town is owned by Polish. The Hard Rock Hotel is essentially a franchise run by the son-in-law of the Hungarian PM. I also know of a cute little local, Hungarian boutique hotel owned by Brits and another by French. They provide jobs and at worst 95% of the money goes into the local economy.

But I'm like periscope, wish it were shaped like a guitar. Then it would be really classy.

That link won't open for me but if its about the Seminole Hard Rock shaped like a guitar.... now that's architecture at its best and most refined. Right up there with the Eiffel Tower and all that Roman stuff in Italy.

Weren't you there yesterday? Or was it the day before?

I met a friend yesterday and told her that I was planning a Christmas markets trip in December. Her first words were: you're going to Budapest, surely.
