I understand there is now free travel on transport in Budapest for UK citizens over 65 provided ID is shown with photo and DOB.
I believe it included buses and metro does it also include Trams and the COG railway. With this free travel in mind is it worth paying the high charges for the hop on and hop off bus
The free travel for those over 65 are not only for those from the UK.
The hop on hop off bus gives commentary on what you are seeing.
Yes, free travel for any senior over 65 from anywhere. Occasionally an inspector wants to see ID, but often not. I guess I look old. I have never taken the hop on hop off bus, so I can’t compare.
All busses, trams and the metro. The COG is included because it is actually Tram 60, but the funicular is not included. Also included are all MAV and HEV trains within Hungary but you would do good to buy a seat assignment when available.
UK citizens are asked to keep to the right when getting on and off .... okay, just kidding.
Any picture ID with a birth date will work.
The HOHO pretty much follows the public transportation route, but more slowly as it has to deal with traffic. As an O.F. you can hop on and off trams in the same manner. Yes, the HOHO has commentary, but you have the DK Eyewitness Top 10 Budapest guide that fits in your back pocket. Many like the HOHO, many don't.
