The only special event on the radar right now is the Danube Carnival 6 thru 14 https://www.dunakarneval.hu/en

Day 1, Maybe start by walking down Andrassy ut and taking the 47/49 Tram to the Dohany utca synagogue, doing the tour, then on the tram to the Great Market Hall, then walk Vaci utca to Vorosmary ter and then to the river and board the 2/2B/23 Tram to the Parliament. Do the Shoes on the Danube and the Parliament and walk down Falk Miska utca to the 4/6 Tram. The 4/6 tram will take you back to Andrassy ut at an interesection called the Oktogon. Walk up Andrassy ut for the architecture. Heroes Square at the end. In city park the kids might enjoy the Vajdahunyad Castle, the lake (boating even), the Hungarian House of Music and the roof park on the Museum of Ethnography.

Day 2. Walk to the Basilica and do the climb to the tower. The walk on to the Chain Bridge. The carnival will have some things going on in front of the Basilica and on the bridge if it is like past years (but the program doesnt mention it). Walk across the chain bridge and take the funicular up to the castle district. To the right is the Fishermans bastion that often has things that kids might be interested in. Do the views and do the inside of the Matthias Church. The castle, well not so much with the kids. Maybe the Hospital in the Rock if that interest you.

Option A. Then back down by the stairs that lead to the Castle Gardens where you can get the 19/41 tram to 4/6 Tram to Margrit Island. Walk the the island and there is a bath house complex there that is suitable for kids. Mostly outdoor and fun for all ages.

Option B. Childrens railway. A bit of a tram ride (56 or 56A or 61 tram) but kids like it.

Then return to Pest on 4/6 tram, but before you go home walk down Andrassy ut to the Opera House.

Dinner I woud do something with Gypsy music (Rézkakas Bistro) or somehting just fun (Sir Lancelot).

Evening. Take the M1 down to Vorsomarty ter and then walk the few hundred meters to the river. I think even the kids will be impressed with the lights. You could even cross the bridge (any of them) and look back at the Parliament lit up at night). The area around the Opera House is also pretty impressive at night.

I have some more younger age group things, I will send you. PM
