Budapest for 12 days...where to stay

I have 12 nights for my first trip to Budapest. Upper limit per night for me is around $140 US. Would love some kind of balcony t sit and view the street/people watch but it is not required if there is at least a window onto the street. Would LOVE a river view but just can't spend that kind of money this trip. Needs: WiFi & air AC in room. Breakfast provided is great, but at least available is fine.

I'd like to be near the center to facillitate getting to the sights. I can do some walking but with heart issues, don't need to push it. Close to local transport is good. I want to experience the city, but do it in a relaxed style. I do not drink alcohol so being near to bars and nightlife is not a priority for me.

Any recommendations? I have looked up some of the previously mentioned places but they seem to be out of my price range, lol

Okay, so where. Budget or no budget, some place along Andrassy ut, or to put it another way, some place near the M1 Metro line (which runs directly under Andrassy ut. No place will be better connected, in the center of a lot and where people watching and evening strolls are convenient and enjoyable.

Budapest is a big city and the sights are all over, but 95% are in Pest and there is a fantastic and sort of fun metro system. A few underground lines but mostly you will be riding trams. Trams are fun.

Mclianne, you are a good candidate for an Airbnb. In the areas I think you would like, they start at $75 and then the sky is the limit. Just make sure they are licensed, if not on the ground floor have an elevator. A washer and dryer would be nice and air conditioning is a must.

A few hotels that you might want to check out are the Medosz Hotel https://maps.app.goo.gl/mQKqH4AS3HPuBwyV6 Hotel Andrassy https://maps.app.goo.gl/j8A5fBMtm2ndQ1y49 Isabela https://maps.app.goo.gl/Dbbqzhw3E3yCzVCU7 Hotel Oktogon https://maps.app.goo.gl/vKhk6YYCkAAmxZjY7 Callas House https://maps.app.goo.gl/gHCsRyPzCD6hwDYu8

I cant recommend a particular hotel or Airbnb so read the reviews and if you find one in your budget and want to know more about the location and the connections to the sights, then send me the name before you book. Happy to tell you what I know.

With 12 nights, Budapest is a good place for Air BnB. There are a lot! In addition to air conditioning and WiFi, I would filter also for a washing machine and elevator. Some will be a couple of stories up with just stairs.

Another hotel in your budget to consider is the K+K Opera. But price for all will depend on time of year.

Shes going late April / early May. I looked at the K+K and it was a bit over budget. But Mclaine, check me on that cause its a good choice. Mclianne, if the Callas is in budget that would be amazing location. A lot of the others I posted are a bit further out, but "out" on the most beautiful avenue in Europe (okay, i am biased) with the antique M1 metro running directly under it. You can hop on and in under 10 minutes be in the largest town square then a 3 minute walk to the river. The trams that cross the M1 take you to the Parliament, NY Cafe, Great Synagogue, Market Hall. And there is a stop a few minutes walk from the Basilica. You really cant do wrong on the M1 line. And its a cute old metro .... sort of like what you find connecting airport terminals.

I will be out of town 18 thru 29 April, but after that if you need any help, call.

I really like the Medosz Hotel, stayed there on 3 trips--it's on Jokai ter, just off Andrassy ut and a block from the Oktogon--close to all transportation, restaurants and some shops a tourist might need, and a couple of blocks to the wonderful Operettszinhaz where you can enjoy delightful musical comedies, if that's your thing. The lobby is right out of the cold war era, but the rooms are quite nice, including a new wing renovated in the past 4 years. My preferred room has a queen bed with a panoramic terrace (it's about 10' x 18' and has chairs and table), very spacious and light, nice bathroom, excellent varied breakfast included and being able to sit out on the private terrace in the morning with coffee or at night being able to see all the major buildings lit up is very special indeed. Wifi and A/C and the usual room amenities like refrigerator and coffee maker included. They have 3 such rooms, and the queen was around $115 per night for me last April. The regular rooms are still very spacious and nicely decorated, but that terrace is enough to make me book my whole trip around reserving it.

I stayed in this apartment for 8 nights last October, it’s pretty big, comfortable and clean and in a great location close to the Opera. The host was very helpful too. It’s in a busy street but it’s very quiet.

Sorry that I'm 10 days late, but I know the neighborhood in the listing above very well. I'd jump on that booking if I were you. There are decent groceries, bakeries, restaurants and even a great hamburger place (Zingburger) on that street.

And that's where a lot of the really great all night bars are. That's why the street is so popular with 20 to 30 year old tourists after sunset.

The bed is up a spiral staircase. That would be a "no" for me at 72 and I have no heart issues. It looks very nice, though. For a younger person.

But it is beautiful. The other thing you have to look for when the bed is in a loft like that is the head room. Here it is not uncommon at all for the headroom to be five feet or less in the loft (you crawl to your bed), but that one looks at least 6 feet.

Also street facing ground floor can have street noise which can be bad on streets like Kiraly utca so any ground floor apartment ask if its street facing our courtyard facing. Street facing on side streets is ginerally okay, just not on the major ones like Kiraly utca.

Then remember that the first floor is really the second floor the way we count floors in the US. The climb to the first level above the ground floor, the first floor, can be as much as, or more than 20 feet (roughly two typical US floors). Elevators are common, but not every building has one. So, ask. Even if there is one, it can be "interesting" to ride.

Also, always look for the licnese number. It is required by law to be on the website. This one does have one. Thats good.
Many dont. They are operaing illegally
