Budapest Dinner Cruise in Winter...

Hello,

My wife and I are planning to be in Budapest in the last week of November/early December. We would love to take a dinner cruise on the Danube, and see that the boats are running. We can't help but wonder if cold or rainy weather dampens the experience or the views. Would anyone care to share their experience and advise us as to what to expect?

Thank you.

Mark

Winter is not the rainy season here, so thats a good thing. The lights are beautiful from the boat, thats a good thing. It gets dark a lot earlier so you can take an earlier boat and thats a good thing.

I've done a few of the dinner cruises over the years and the food is sort of so so but that not really why you are there. I prefer the ones with just wine and music though.

Answer is yes. Its beautiful and worth it.

I'm dying to travel to Europe. Most wanted to visit Rome, Italy and Budapest, Hungary. I want to feel the European culture and different customs of the last century. Do you have any recommended travel routes?

If someone were to ask what to see first in Europe I would say

  • Athens and Rome the birthplace of Western Civilization.
  • England as the source of American culture.
  • Paris for the late Middle Ages throuhg the Age of Revolutions.
  • Budapest for an introduction to "the other" Europe.

But to answer your question. There are discount flights from Rome to Budapest, so depending on you time:

Rome
Discount flight to Prague
Train to Vienna
Train to Budapest

But thats very simplistic and depends on Budget and time. That could be a 2+ week trip if you just see the cities and a 3+ week trip with all the stops inbetween

If you only have 8 days then half in Rome and half in Budapest. The flight takes about 2 hours and costs under $100 if you pack light. Plan it well and you can see and do a lot.

Mr. E,
Is there a boat company you would recommend that is “the ones with just wine and music”?
Does it matter or are they all similar? Traveling in December.
Thank you

Renee, they are probably all about the same but I went with Legenda in 2018 and it was nice.

There may be some fine differences. Ive been on Legenda and Silverline. I cant tell you which was which. Shop for what you want to do. Some are shorter, some longer, some with dinner, some with just drinks, some with a little music, some with a lot and from time to time there are theme boats. Which ever you end up on you will have a good time. My best recommendation is do it at night with the lights.
