We have a very limited amount of time in Budapest. While we have pretty much nailed down what we want to see, we are undecided which would be more interesting: a visit to the Central Market with lunch at one of the restaurants there or a visit with lunch at the New York Cafe that Rick shows in his Budapest DVD? We won't have time for both, so suggestions, recommendations would be appreciated.
Market for sure.
Another vote for the Market!
Market. I would also recommend Szechenyi Baths and Memento Park, but it sounds like you won't have time.
Market. It's a whole world of food, goods, and smelly fish in the basement.
If the market is full as it most often is, for me at least eating there isn't a great experience. There are some good food places in the market, but more bad ones than good. This is not to say skip the market. Do go; excellent experience. In particular go to the basement (follow your nose for the pickled .... everything ..... and the fish). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1TErd4ZqH0
I was there in April and a bit disappointed that a few of my favorite vendors were no more ... victims of COVID i presume.
The NY Palace is certainly an experience too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlZy2vhiuPA . Be sure to boneup on the history first. Without knowing more about your day I really cant tell you if you have the time to get from the Market to the NY Palace and then to your next stop. Generally speaking you take the 47/49 tram to the 2nd stop (Astoria) and you get on the M2 metro for one stop, then about 100m walk. I love the place myself.
Just depends on what lights your fire and how much time you have and what was your stop prior and what is your stop next,
And that RS Video, I believe it is 11 years old. A few things have changed.
I would also recommend the Market. So many sights and smells!
The New York Cafe is stunningly beautiful, but I find the food to be "meh" and the prices to be high. You'll see more in the area around the Market to get a feel for Budapest.
If you can spend a few hours at Szechenyi, as recommended above, it is absolutely worth your time.
