Last minute question on the baths in Budapest. We have 2 kids (ages 12 and 9), and on the Szechnyi baths website it simply says that thermal water is not recommended for under 14. Does that mean they are not allowed, or that they are simply suggesting that children not go in thermal water? I feel that I saw somewhere that kids weren't allowed at all or at least not in the indoor baths.
Also, is this too cold to do in winter? It sounds fun but it will be so cold outside!
Pooof! Your kids are now 14. Naaaa, don't lie. I’ve seen plenty of kids in the outside pool; which is what they will enjoy. We spent an evening in the pool last Christmas. It was amazing. 30-something F air temperature and 90-what ever it is F water temperature with this amazing fog sitting over it. Place was doing a pretty fair business and everyone had a good time. You will find me soaking there in about two weeks. One suggestion, purchase a Cabana. A cabana is really just a closet to change in. Everyone can share one. The Locker Rooms can alienate squeamish people.

The last thing I want to do is tell you wrong, so I did what I do when I am traveling and have this sort of question. I look for photos: https://alaskaairblog.files.wordpress.com/2014/06/baths-in-budapest.jpg?w=575&h=432&crop=1 and http://www.seeknewtravel.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/11/SDC15262.jpg I think you are safe....... If you have any concerns, send them an email.
Thanks, James. I think we will try for sure. Sounds like a great activity, and very unique.
I dug up one of your earlier posts and I guess you will be there the week after Christmas. Since you have your kids with you, why not make a day out of that end of town .... or a half day.
Around noon, walk (or take the M1 Metro Line that runs directly under Andrassy ut) up Andrassy ut to Paprika's http://www.paprikavendeglo.hu/angol/index.html for lunch. Good authentic regional food in an interesting environment that the kids will like. Then walk past the bath house to the Circus for the 3pm show http://www.fnc.hu/eng/ . I haven't been yet. Purchased tickets in August but got side tracked so gave them to some friends who said I missed something good. Going to try again in January. After the circus head across the street to the bath house and soak and play till dinner time. Since you are essentially doing the Andrassy ut strip, you might try Hachapuri (Georgian Food) for dinner. Casual and the sort of place the kids would be comfortable in. Take the M1 metro from the bath house to the Bajcsy-Zsilinszky út station and you will see it across the street from the metro stairs. The kids will enjoy the M1 metro too, it plays something similar to Mario Brothers music when it starts and stops. Tiny little cars too.
Wow, great info! Thanks a lot! We are really looking forward to the trip!
This is a place I love, so its easy.
