We will be in Budapest later this month and would like to go the a bath one day. Are American style swim trunks appropriate for my husband? Thanks!
Yes, American style swim trunks are fine.
But a European-style speedo takes up less room in the bag!
G3rryCee, very true. I don’t know where to find one around here, but I’m sure I can find one on amazon.
Swim trunks are fine; you’ll see all kinds!
Be sure to have flip flops; street shoes are not allowed. You will need a towel as well (your hotel can provide one to you). Swim caps are required only if you plan on swimming laps in the lap pool.
You’re going to love it!

The official word. Nothing different than what has been said here.
Christy, thanks for the reminder about flip flops and towels. I’m assuming that a slide type rubber shoe will be an acceptable for flip flops. As far as towels, we are staying in an apartment so I will confirm whether we will be permitted to take towels from there with us.
Mr. E, thank you for the link. Lots of good information there.
Slides are perfectly fine. You’re going to love it! It is relaxing and refreshing and you’ll find yourself trying to squeeze in another visit.
Maybe I need to plan our day there early in our one week stay. Then there could be time for a second trip. ;-)
You should try a couple of bath houses. Each a different experience.
Thanks, that’s not a bad idea. As “they” say, variety is the spice of life. Except Paris, there is no such thing as too much time there. :-)
Trouble is in choosing.
- Széchenyi is the icon and "fun"
- Gellert is the high end a la 1920 where you really do step back in time.
- Rudas has an ancient corner, but otherwise more of a modern take on the subject.
- Lukacs is a turn of the century bath turned local hangout
- Palatinus Strand is communist era family resort
- Kiraly is the under appreciated ancient bath
and there are a half dozen more .....
Most of them are here: https://bathsbudapest.com/
Decisions, decisions…
