We're traveling to Budapest-Vienna in a few months. We had hoped to fly into Vienna and out of Budapest but those flights don't seem to work with our schedule and budget so we're doing a round trip flight from the US to Budapest. We really wanted to do the cities "separately" (i.e. 3 days in Vienna followed by 4 days in Budapest instead of Budapest, then Vienna, then back to Budapest). Any recommendations on the best way to get from the airport in Budapest to Vienna without renting a car? (we land fairly early in the day so we should have plenty of time)
On the other hand, and especially if we're assuming that you won't be able to check into a hotel very early, I think that riding a train for 2.5 hours is easier than trying to stay awake and do other sightseeing (the common anti-jet lag advice). In either city, it would be worth a try to give the hotel your estimated arrival time, in case they are able to make a room available earlier.
Hi, You want to consider this option to see if it is feasible. Fly from the US to Frankfurt, connect to Budapest. The connecting hub is Frankfurt. Obviously, the advantage is you'll arrive in BP sooner.
