Budapest advance ticket requirements.

We will be in Budapest 24/08/22-24, 2 full days.
The castle district is popular as well as walks along the river and Houses of Parliament.
ARE THERE KEY SITES that require advance tickets and as Rick cautions avoid the lines………
Otherwise we will craft something from our top ten Budapest book.
Thanks

August 22 - 24

You miss St Stephens day by 2 days, thats too bad. Big event here.

With two days, where you stay makes a larger impact. But in general.

The Buda Castle district might be an okay thing for a few hours. Gives you the opportunity to walk across the Chain Bridge and ride the Funicular. The district itself, other than the views from Fisherman's Bastion isnt a real go getter of a place.

There is a stretch of the river that is enjoyable to walk. It is between the Intercontinental and the Marriott. Otherwise use the 2 Tram that will take you from the Parliament to the Great Market Hall. Then the next tram the 47/49 will take you around to the Great Synagogue. That and the run up to the Castle District is probably a day.

Second day could be Andrassy ut from one end to the other. Quite a few of the Top Ten on that route.

But again, hard to go into detail without knowing where you are staying.

DK Eyewitneess Top 10 to Budapest is a very good guide book.

But do remember that Budapest doesnt really have an "old town" tourist district. The attraction here is the entire city .... okay lets say 20% of the entire city about the same size as Chicago.

Tickets you want to get in advance would be for the Parliament (may already be too late) or if you want to go to the theater or opera or concert (again, may be too late). If you want to do the Opera House tour (its good) buy the ticket now just to be safe.

Do buy a metro TravelCard for 72 hours as well.

Thanks for the reply.
We will be staying at the Anantara New York which is where Viking folks are booked before their cruise. Looks like Metro2 goes a lot of places from there. I was aware I would miss theatre, opera, and St Stevens day with this cruise date……oh well…. Recommend the organ concert at St Stevens on the night I get there? (If I can stay awake…)

You are at the hotel of the NY Palace Cafe. The most beautiful Cafe in Europe. Enjoy.

The same place as the M2 metro stop is the 4/6 tram stop that will take you to Andrasy ut. You are not poorly connected at all.

Learning experience I will put on my Facebook group for Viking travelers…….go to government website for $25 parliament tour tickets 3 weeks out OR PAY $65 to Viator for some selection up till 10 days out. (Presume Viator repping a local buys a bunch up to scalp)
Anyway I got scalped!

The Hoise of Terror (which is a very good 20th-century-history museum) sometimes has a ticket lime. I don't know whether individual time slots ever sell out, but buying tickets online might be a good idea.

I would try to take in a bath while in Budapest. One of the best (the one with the chessboards in pool) is way up at the far end of Andrassy ut.
