That is about right for the taxi. For Fo Taxi, exit the terminal and look left for the stand. When you get to the window (even if there is a line, it moves fast), give them your designation. They will give you a piece of paper with your taxi number on it and tells you an approximate cost. The taxi pulls up quickly in front of you (slightly to the right). Give the driver the paper and pay him directly upon arrival. I can’t help you with Bolt as I have never tried to use it. This trip I actually arrive in the daylight at a decent time, and without jet lag. So I plan to take the airport bus for 2,200HUF (@ $6).

Don't know the price for Bolt, but it is complicated because they can not come to the arrivals level. If its legal at all they would have to park in the parking lot and come in and find you, or you go out to the lot and look for them.

Only FoTaxi can go to arrivals.

Around town, as a general rule, they all charge the same.

I thought I knew, but wanted to be sure.

Yes, Bolt can pick you up at the airport, but not at arrivals.

Bolt in Budapest uses taxi meters and the fare is the same as any taxi, and is set by the government.

Pretty much. If there were a lot of you, I would say a private driver can be cost effective. I did a private van for 6 riders to the airport a few weeks ago for 20.000 forints.

FoTaxi does a good job. Once in town if you download the CityTaxi App they can be real convenient and very professional.

Otherwise get your TravelCard for the duration and ride the metro, trams, busses and trollies all day long.
The 72 hour TravelCard is 5500 forints ($15)
and the 15 day Budapest Pass is 6300 forints ($17)

Buy paper or download the BudapestGo app. I still prefer the paper so I dont have to mess with my cellphone on the metro. But both work equally as well

Just to add, it’s easiest to download and set up the City Taxi app before you leave home.

And I am one who uses the Budapest Go app for my digital pass - but you do have to have data available.

TTM, I have been watching at the metro checkpoints. It's still 2 to one, or more, paper. The most common way to carry the paper is in the back of a clear cell phone protective case.

Rode the M4 today for the first time. The metro stations are freeking amazing. Like giant underground caverns.

Mister É, maybe I will spend a half day just riding around on the M4! And I am in love with my new phone case, so a new clear one isn’t on the horizon. 🤣

The problem with paper versus phone is that more tourists may not come with data - and locals will definitely have the longer term pass that you only have to pull out when asked. Makes sense. That is what I will have after I buy my 10 square meter apartment.

Does the fo taxis and bolt take credit cards? I assume so, but thought I’d ask. 😊 I’ll be pretty jet lagged when we arrive late afternoon, so I want to be prepared ahead of time.
