We'll be in Budapest for the last 6 nights of August, 2015. We typically rent a house or apartment when we travel and hope to do the same for this visit. Like to be in a setting which is convenient to, but not in the thick of, sights etc. What neighborhood have you stayed in or would recommend, and what would you say are the pros and cons of that neighborhood from your perspective? Please, don't respond with "everybody is different....depends on what you want to do" etc. I'm just interested in hearing your opinions. Thanks much!
There are lots of opinions of where to stay. I agree with your tastes. This is my suggestion: https://onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=C9F4C533EB93D92E!14944&authkey=!ABx6AcT8DtFafcs&ithint=file%2cpdf
The place we stay is on a little side street that runs from the Opera House on Andrassy ut (street) to Kiraly utca (smaller street) and the entrance to what was the Jewish Deportation Ghetto. We choose this place after about a dozen visits to Budapest and for us it is the best mix of culture, daily Hungarian life and access to the sights that make Budapest so special. We can walk in one direction and be at the Opera or the Operett, the other direction takes us to the Jewish District which is an amazing vibrant part of town. Just stay out of anything that is in District V. You can identify that by the postal code 105X. District V is great to visit, but its deep in the heart of the tourist trade.
The map I linked to above shows some other zones that will give you a similar experience to where I stay. The locations identified as Location 1 and Location 2 are meant to illustrate popular cheap hotel locations that are not so convenient, explaining whey they are cheap.
Thanks James. This is excellent information, just the kind I was hoping to receive. The attachment you included was especially helpful.
Mike, when you find a place of interest send me the address and maybe I can give you some local details on the neighborhood and convenience to the sights.
