Behind your hotel is Vorosmarty ter (square). That is the end stop of the historic M1 metro. Hop on and in about 10 minutes you get off at the szechenyifurdo stop. You are there.

We visited the Szechenyi Baths on a snowy day years ago when we lived in Bonn. Great fun. Spent most of our time in the steamy pool with the chess players, then ran through the snow to the pool with the intense water jets, where we could barely stay upright. Skipped only the lap pool in between these two. For us, this was probably a more memorable experience than the elegant hotel baths would have been.

Mr. E - I would love the email with the details of using the baths too if you would not mind. I am considering going to Rudas for the Turkish dome experience and plan to contrast it with the Szechenyi experience. Thanks so much for all the info you offer to travelers.

I have never been to Rudas, but TexasTravelMom has so maybe she will pipe in. The idea of sitting in a 16th century tub is appealing I have to admit. I just did a maybe 150 year old cast iron hot tub sort of thing ona riverbank in Lumshory, that was fun.

You may know this but when you tell someone about Rudas ... say RU-DASH. S without a z following it is always SH. "Budapesht".

I found Széchenyi Thermal Baths through Rick's Budapest guidebook and wanted to share an important warning for future editions and for other travelers. My friend and I pre-paid $89 Euros for appointments on July 24–25 as we were going to be in Budapest for two days as part of our Avalon Waterways river cruise. On July 8, our cruise was canceled due to low water levels in Eastern Europe. I immediately emailed customer service ([email protected]) to request a refund, but they refused to issue one or offer flexibility. Please consider updating your guide to warn travelers about their strict non-refundable policy so others don't lose their money on advance bookings.

Kathy, those tickets you purchased i believe, based on what you paid and your dates, were weekend general admission tickets. Good for one entry on the 24th, 25th or 26th. Still a bummer.

Anyone on a budget that wants to do this bathhouse if you buy them and enter before 9am in person you save about 10€ a ticket.

Or you might want to try Lukacs Bath, its where the locals go ... where i went 2 days ago. Tickets are about 25€ each.

I could be wrong, but I doubt any of the bath houses, museums or the transit company will refund.
