A possible visit to Budapest in October

Will be visiting our daughter and her family who live in Provence in October. Thinking of going to Budapest first. We have never been there. Has anyone visited recently? How impacted is Budapest by the Ukraine war?

What is a good number of nights to spend in Budapest? We like just about everything. History, art, culture, food, architecture, exploring the city. Am thinking of 4 or 5 nights.

Also looking for hotel recommendations. We prefer old European ambience, not modern. Centrally located. Budget would be around $150 - $180 per night.

Thank you for any help and advice!

I have been traveling to Budapest and showing it to friend, family and a few strangers a few times a year for going on 20 years now. Four Full Days is pretty much ideal, but shorter and longer trips can be well worth the effort.

The budget is good. There are so many nice hotels in town let me suggest you go to Google Maps and look at the hotels within a block or two of Andrassy ut. That will put you in the best location. It’s a big city but it is very well connected if you stay near and tram line or metro line. So, location is important.

District V can be tempting but it’s sort of ground zero for tourist madness. District V is inside the inner loop road or look for any address that has a zip code that is 105x.

Some to look at.

Hotel Moments
K&K Opera
Callas House
Casati Budapest Hotel.

These two are sort of out there, but I think it would be wonderful to stay at the end of Andrassy ut and the M1 will take you right back into the center.

Mamaison Hotel Andrássy Budapest
Alice Hotel
