A Night in the Jewish Quarter - Special Event 22 June

If you are in town this is an absolute "must do". Some might be a bit concerned about what has been going on in other cities. It hasnt happened here. So go enjoy.

The Night of Museums is a large-scale cultural program series organized throughout the country, which will be joined by the Hungarian Jewish Museum and Archives, as well as the Dohany Street Synagogue complex and the Rumbach Synagogue. Don't forget: start on Saturday evening, June 22 with the outcome of Shabbat at 9:50 p.m.

Time: Saturday, June 22, 2024 from 9:50 p.m. to half past two a.m.

Location: Hungarian Jewish Museum and Archives; Dohany Street Synagogue; Herzl Park in front of the museum; Rumbach Sebestyén Street Synagogue.

9.50 pm – Hávdala: open-air Sabbath farewell in front of the Dohany Street Synagogue
Guided walks from 10.30 p.m. in the Dohany Street Synagogue
10:30 p.m.: Shalom, Jerusalem! – Andi Malek Soulistic concert on the open-air stage in front of the synagogue
Yiddish, Sephardic and Israeli melodies, Hungarian classical hits! Lots of dancing, singing together and good mood!

PROGRAMS IN THE JEWISH MUSEUM

10:20 p.m. until closing: Ask the rabbi!
Chief Rabbi Tamás Verő will not sleep this night either, as he will be available to the audience from 10 p.m. until closing: the "super-rabbi" will be the Ask the Rabbi! answers all questions about Judaism, traditions and history.

22.20 hrs: Our common passion for football – professionals and fans at the Jewish Museum – roundtable discussion about Hungarian football from a Jewish perspective

23.00-01.00: The permanent exhibition from a new perspective – guided tours in the Hungarian Jewish Museum
11.00 pm: Everyday accessories in the service of rituals
A box or even a cow – what makes these Jewish objects? Guide: Eszter Bánfalvi-Orosz
23.15 hrs: Curatorial guided tour / Patterns of survival – DEGOB protocols in a new light – temporary exhibition
11.30 pm: Social justice – the concept of cedaka in the light of object culture. Guide: Panni Nemecsek.

00.00 hrs: Death and Judaism. Focus on burials, folklore, and symbols.

00.30 hours: The playful face of tradition - the value of the joy of spending time together in Jewish culture.

01.00 am: Budapest Jews in the mirror of tombstones – guided tour in the new permanent exhibition of the Museum.

PROGRAMS IN THE RUMBACH SEBESTYÉN STREET SYNAGOGUE

From 10.30 p.m.: Music (also) in the house
On the night of the summer solstice, we invite everyone interested to a musical house tour. The walk from the synagogue square with the Metrum ensemble and Ádám Móser is accompanied by classical music and accordion to the rabbi's apartment, while we enter a musical café from an auditorium. Or is the opposite true? Find out with us! Special musical walks run every 40 minutes between 22.30 and 00.30.
