3 days in Budapest in December

We will be in Budapest for 3 days early in December, it will be our first time visiting. We would like to stay in
Pest. We are interested in visiting the city’s historical landmarks, cafes, and restaurants during our visit. Is it worth it to book a private sightseeing driver? We definitely want to spend time at the Christmas Markets. Finally, we have looked at the Marriott Hotel suggested by a friend but were wondering if there were other hotels we should look at before booking. We appreciate any input as we make our plans. I like along Andrassy ut the best. Its beautiful, well connected to tge sights and not as thick with tourists as the river front is. Here are some of the hotels to look at:

For the Christmas Markets: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/hungary/updated-budapest-christmas-markets-christmas-activities.

Budapest is difficult to see by car. A guide works well for some people but most dont find the need. You will need a good guide book and a pass for the public transportation for the duration of your stay.

Here is a guide that I've been told was good: https://lovefromhungary.com/ And I think a few RS types have used her and may have put her in a trip report. Search the forum on the name and see if you get a hit.

Let me be a little more objective. The Marriott is on the river and I believe each room has a river view. There are few things more beautiful than the view across the river. Out in front of the hotel is the famous 2 Tram that runs from the 4/6 Tram to the 47/49 Tram and along the way it passes the Parliament and the Central Market Hall. The 4/6/47 and 49 will take you to much more of Budapest.

More or less behind the Marriott is Vorosmarty ter where the largest Christmas Market is located and in the center of the Market is the end stop of the M1 Metro. The M1 Metro will take you to the Opera House, House of Terror, Heros’ Square, Széchenyi Bath House and City Park.

All sounds wonderful. The draw back is that it is among the most expensive and most crowded places in town. I suggested Andrassy ut as it runs from City Park, crossing the 4/6 and ending at the 47/49. Under it is the M1 which takes you to the river for the views. Most of the hotels on Andrassy ut have more classic style than does the Marriott (a bit old and tired).

But truth is they are both good choices. Depends on your style. If you do consider the Marriott, also look at the Intercontinental.
