24 Hours in Budapest

We (4 adults) arrive in Budapest after departing from a river cruise just after breakfast and depart the next night to fly to Copenhagen. We are wondering where to stay so as we can see a little of Budapest. Also we would like some central accommodation to the main sights as we know we won't be able to see too much. Thank you in advance. This will be late September.

The Intercontinental or the Marriott on the River. They have the best views in Europe and are on or very near transportation to most of the top 10 sights in town.

If not arriving or departing on a Monday, then:
Day 1
After breakfast leave your bags at the Intercontinental or Marriott both are close to your boat dock.
Maybe 9am: Board the 2 Tram (in front of both hotels) and ride it up river to the Parliament. This is the tram that gets written up as the best Tram Ride in Europe. Sit on the water side facing up river.,
Get off at the Parliament, look around. Go down to the river bank and see the Shoes on the Danube.
Back on tram to it's terminating stop and transfer to the 4/6 Tram. Ride it across the river to the mid point of the bridge. Get off, enjoy view, take picutres, get back on to the Buda side of the river and get off.
Transfer to the 19/41 Tram and ride it down stream.
Get off at the Funicular and ride it up to the Buda Castle District.
Eat lunch in the castle district.
Funicular back down and back on the tram further down river to the Gellert Hotel.
Get off and transfer to the 47/48/49 Tram and go back across the river to Pest. First stop across the river is the Great Market Hall. Get off, visit, go to basement and ground and first floors.
Back on Tram t the Great synagogue. Do the 1 hour tour. Worth it.
Back on tram to where it terminates. Get off, look further ahead and you will see the Basilica. Walk to it
Plenty of places for a drink or relax take in the view and people watch for a while
Walk down the pedestrian area to the river where you will find the 2 tram to take you back to your hotel.
Dinner at DunaCorso near your hotel with river view.
Both hotels have nice bars with views.

Total time on trams, funicular and walking between sights is maybe 90 minutes but the views along the way make the transportation part of the experience.

Day two
Check out of hotel, leave bags at desk.
Walk out back door of hotel to Vorsomarty ter. Look around, then use google to walk to Andrassy ut. Wonderful architectura and pure Budapest along the way. Walk the entire length of Andrassy ut (45 minutes and worth it). Stop along the way at the House of Terror or do the Opera House Tour or stop at a cafe with tables outsdie and just soak it in. The bath house is a possibility too,. Lunch maybe at https://maps.app.goo.gl/jKTJRaxqJbNDuC9U9

Take M1 metro back to Vorsomarty ter and your hotel to get your bags. Leave for airport 2.5 hours before flight time.
