Budapest to Krakow

Hi
We are driving from Budapest to Krakow and I was looking for driving times and they are anywhere between 4.5 to 6 hours depending on the site you are searching (viaMichelin to google maps...) Can anyone suggest best route

Also need a recommendation for a good GPS system covering Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland and Slovenia

thanks

From what I could tell on these sites it looked like the driving time was going to more in the range of 5.5 to 6.5 hours averaging about 6 hours. All sites look like the fastest route has you going north on the E77.

As for GPS systems, your rental agency may be able to rent one to you. It will expensive though. In many cases its better to buy a GPS unit in the states and a map pack for Central Europe before you go. Always go with a back up fold out map though.

I hope this helps some.

Best route? It can be different for different people. For some it could be the fastest one, for others the one with the most scenery.

See if this link works: http://goo.gl/maps/ew5z6

For nature it would be hard to beat the Grand Kempinski High Tatras (or one of the other hotels around the lake). The Kempinski will even do the entire transfer for you for an arm and a leg. Did it once. It was an experience.

or cheaper, the Hotel Patria http://www.hotelpatria.sk/en

Another Option, for villages, hill top keep, and great city squares and shopping is to stop in Banská Bystrica which is a glorious little town with a couple nice hotels. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bansk%C3%A1_Bystrica But be sure to stop in Banská Štiavnica an equally fabulous town closer to the Hungarian Border. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bansk%C3%A1_%C5%A0tiavnica
