1 day in Budapest - Best Thing to Do?

I have one free day in Budapest. What's the best one thing to do in the city that shouldn't be missed? Parliament tour? Castle? Something else? Dinner suggestions for good local Hungarian food appreciated as well.

I try and not give out mindless advice and day of the week can impact things. If you have any flexibility, Aug 20 is St Stephen's Day, the biggest holiday in Hungary.

Otherwise, I just did something similar for someone, I will dig it out tomorrow and doctor it up for you. With one or two nights, look at staying at the Marriot or Intercontinental on the river front. More tomorrow.

In a single day, you can cover all the below attractions, you could only be able to make it with a well-organised plan.

Inner City & Central Pest
Parliament
Chain Bridge
Castle District

Have a fantastic meal at one of the local restaurants.

Though it is an Italian meal we ate at the Trattoria Toscana, right on the Danube River looking up at at the Citadella. It was DELICIOUS......2 of us had bruschetta, 2 pasta dishes and tiramisu for $34......and the service was great. We enjoyed our meal so much that we ate there twice in our 5 day visit.....we loved seeing Shoes on the Danube memorial, walking across the chain bridge and taking the funicular up to Fisherman’s Bastion, touring the Parliament Building (the tour was only 45 minutes) and seeing the Great Market hall.
