Senator Haz in Eger

I don't know how many of you are interested in traveling to Eger, one of Rick's recommended small towns in Hungary. My wife wanted a "rest period" on our 2 week vacation and we choose this town and this hotel at Rick's recommendation. The town was lovely with enough to do to keep us busy but relaxed enough to have some down town. We really enjoyed the excellent baths which were in town. My wife preferred them to the baths in Budapest.

One of the best parts of our stay was the Senator Haz hotel. It was right on the best part of the big square in town. Rooms were big and well decorated. We stayed in the apartment part of the hotel and our room faced a lovely courtyard with pretty landscaping. The restaurant at the hotel had EXCELLENT food, some of the best food we ate on our tour of Hungary. Service was friendly and very helpful. Not everyone spoke excellent English but we didn't have any trouble getting our needs met. I would highly recommend a side trip to Eger and staying in this hotel.

We haven't stayed there in many years but when we do get the time to return we will stay at the Senator Hazel again. I think it's the best choice in town. The owner had a well deserved reputation as a gruff old man but since the place was otherwise near perfect I just considered him part of the charm of the place.
