Budapest Hotel for Two Nights

We are traveling to Budapest at the beginning of December for a Danube river and Christmas market cruise. We will arrive two days early and are looking for a hotel. I like the location of the Marriott with views of Castle Hill. I also like the history and beauty of the Matild Palace. (Yes, I’m a Marriott member :) Anyone have any recommendation as to which might be better for us?

The Marriott is a borderline 5 star hotel, extremely well located for a 2 day visit. The views from the Corso in front are spectacular and the largest Christmas market is practically out the back door of the hotel.

The Matild Palace is one of the finest five stars in town in a magnificent historic building. I suspect the room rate is twice of that of the Marriott. It's not as convenient to tourism as the Marriott, but i know it's a better hotel experience.

Personally, I would stay at the Marriott and visit the Marild Palace.

Thank you for you insight! We are using points to pay for the hotel, and surprisingly there is not much difference between the two hotels. I originally thought the Marriott would be the best location (and close to our
Viking river cruise ship.) I was starstruck by the Matild Palace, though, ha, ha! I think your advice is good, though.

With 2 days you need to cover a lot of ground efficiently. The Marriott will help you do that. The 2 Tram runs in front of the hotel and connects the Great Market Hall to the Parliament. The M1 metro line is just behind the hotel and will take you to and up Andrassy ut where the Opera, Heroes Square, City Park, Bath House and some pretty amazing architecture on the lovelies street in Budapest.

Then you choose walking or the 47/49 Tram to see a lot of the rest (intersects the 2 tram).

Thanks for the transportation information! It really does seem like a great location.

We stayed at the Alice Hotel, near City Park for 6 nights. It was outstanding. The room was spacious, clean, and quiet. The staff was always willing to answer questions, provide any service, and offer assistance. The breakfast buffet was always tasty. A really great place.

Thanks for the recommendation. We are using Marriott points for this trip, but I will keep that hotel in mind for a future visit.
