My husband and I will be in Athens for 7 days in late November. We were thinking of doing a day trip to an island or maybe even staying one or two nights on an island. Obviously it will not be beach weather but we would be happy to walk around a picturesque town, eat, shop or do a hike etc. We were thinking maybe Hydra or Poros. What would you recommend between those two? Or, would you recommend somewhere else?
Aegina would be the closest island and has more to offer than either Hydra or Poros which are fine but have limited options for what to do.
I loved Hydra and two days would be enough to explore. If you’re in good shape, hike uphill to the monastery, it was a beautiful trek.
Consider Santorini. It will be quiet there in November and you'll never forget the views once you experience them. Trip of a lifetime.
If you’re only doing a day trip, another vote for Aegina. It’s the most interesting of the nearby islands. If you decide to spend a couple of nights then I’d go with Nafplio. Not an island but a beautiful little town to stroll around with excellent restaurants.
