We are currently planning a combination Italy/Greece trip in October and need some input on the three airlines that fly nonstop from Rome to Athens.
Aegean Air. Sky Express and ITA Airways are the three choices with flights from Rome to Athens and also to the islands. The reviews on Trip Advisor for each of these airlines are horrible, and I realize that people with complaints are generally the people that review, but if anyone has first hand experience that could help us make a decision in terms of airline to use to get to Athens and then onward to Naxos, we would love to hear from you!

Aegean generally gets good reviews, and will give you United frequent flyer point if you fly with them. Sky express is greek a low cost airline. ITA is a new Italian airline that was created after Alitalia's bankrupcy.
But all airlines have had problems after the pandemic. And if you are going to Naxos, you should book a trip to Naxos and not Athens which rules out ITA.

Thank you. Yes, we will book all the way to Naxos and back to Athens. I think we have eliminated ITA for that reason as well. Aegean does seem the most legit out of the three of them, but there are some pretty awful reviews, especially when it comes to their customer service and lost luggage.

We have flown Aegean Rome to Athens with no problems. In fact we have flown with Aegean/Olympic dozens of times and only had a couple of problems with delays. Aegean has been recognized as the best regional airline many times.
Here is a headline.

Aegean is the way to go. They connect in Athens and use a sister company Olympic for domestic flights.

We flew Aegean/Olympic several years ago and would not hesitate using them again. (I avoid Trip Advisor reviews.) We also flew back from Naxos to Athens. Enjoy your stay!
