Hello we are planning staying one night near Olympia and wonder if anyone has suggestions/experiences with places to stay besides Olympia. Rick Steves doesn't seem to push Olympia itself too much for staying in and suggests Miraka which I guess is near by. I also noticed his tour group stays in Lagkadia. We like the idea of staying in a more charming town in the area. Thank you in advance for any information.

I think the Bacchus Tavern nearby has overnight accommodations. Did not stay there but the restaurant was one of the best we had in Greece.

I stayed at Hotel Hercules in Olympia ... it was not some kind of "charming" place, just a nice moderate hotel just off the main street .... the plus side was, it had no bus=tour groups.

In 2012 we also stayed at Hotel Hercules. We had breakfast and free parking. The gentleman there recommended a restaurant where we had dinner, nothing fancy but a great meal. We only stayed one night but enjoyed our stay there.
