Stayed at the Hera Hotel for an RS tour, and before it started. I thought it was a lovely hotel, right near the acropolis museum, restaurants and the Plaka. http://www.herahotel.gr

Chani, a regular poster here, has stayed at both of these previously mentioned hotels, so she's be a good one to ask to determine which she liked better.

Hotels between the Akropoli Metro Station and the New Acropolis Museum are probably in a slightly safer neighborhood than the ones near the Monastiraki Metro Station.

Jarmine, the South Side of Acropolis now attracts me most, because it's most serene & scenic. Big reason, running all along the S. Side of the acropolis & ancient-forum area is a lovely pedestrianized Promenade .... at the Eastern End, right on the promenade, on N. side of the walkway is the "ancient theatre" entry to Acropolis, directly opposite is New Acropolis Museum, and 100 yards east is the AKropolis Metro station. Three hotels that ar within a Block of the promenade are Airotel Parthenon, Hotel Phillipos & HOtel Herodion, (those 2 are "sister hotels", the latter is a bit more upscale). All rooms in these have balconies, the latter 2 have roof terraces w. Parthenon views.. some of the top flor apt balconies also have view. Booking is filling up FAST for September in these convenient moderate hotels ... if they are booked, Hotel Hera is nearly as close.

I stayed at both the Hera and the Acropolis Select in April. They are a block apart. I liked the Hera a little better and they have a rooftop restaurant with a view of the Acropolis. Athens is a safe city. Just take normal precautions against pickpockets.

We stayed in Plaka. IMHO that's the best area. I don't understand your question: "how the area of Plaka is?

The Plaka area is safe enough although quite crowded and busy.

Plaka is the tourist heart of the city so it's quite safe (although like any big European city, don't leave your purse on the back of your chair, or your phone on a table, etc). I didn't see any thefts but that's just standard travel advice for any big city, really.

Dear Jasmine

If you choose airbnb the best neighborhoods in my opinion are

1) The area behind Kallimarmaro Stadium especially Varnavas square. Acropolis is about 20 minutes by food Systagma 15 by foot but the neighborhood are so cosy and lively With nice cafes

) Koukaki is next to Acropolis

2) Plaka
