That was interesting. The stereotypes were no surprise, but it was interesting that most also acknowledged that stereotypes probably weren't reality. I laughed at the two women working in the tourism industry that said they loved Americans because of the tipping. I was hoping they would ask others that don't work in the service industry what they thought of the Americans over-the-top tipping habits.
Americans tip because they like good service and because it makes them feel good. For example, if I enjoy the conversation I have with my taxi driver, it makes my life feel more enriched from the experience and it makes me feel good to show my gratitude. I could care less about European norms re: tipping.

It has been asked before but let's ask again, based on this logic does this mean that tourists to the US shouldn't care about American tipping norms and leave nothing if that's what's done at home?
I have the feeling that Noelle has not yet completely assimilated the differences between Europe and the USA regarding tipping habits... :-))
