Reading this thread about Welcome Pickups, I see that the few disrecommendations were posted by one-time posters we've never seen again on the forums. It makes you wonder about the authenticity of these messages.

Personally, I've used Welcome Pickups quite a few times, mainly to go to the airport very early in the morning when the metro isn't running or if we are too far from the nearest station. The last time was 3 weeks ago in Athens.
I've always been satisfied. The driver was on time, friendly, and the fare (a little more expensive than the normal fare) is known in advance.

You are notified in the app of the driver's name and car registration number.

However, when booking a taxi with Welcome Pickup for an airport pickup, the driver is expected to wait one hour after the plane's arrival, no longer.
According to the Terms & Conditions, he/she can leave after this one-hour delay without notice.

I also use Welcome a lot in Athens if it’s late and night and I’m going somewhere that isn’t close to a metro station. I’ve always found them reliable and efficient. I’ve also used them in Thessaloniki and in Prague and found them good there too.

I have used them in Paris, will use them again. Very reliable.

We booked with them and our plane was over one hour late. No refund just a credit. We now only use companies with a more generous time frame and no prepayment.
What was really annoying is that we texted them before our plane ever left JFK that we would be delayed. They responded one hour only.

We had a bad experience in Cairo. Driver texted a substitute of which neither I or Welcome knew anything about would be there. Wouldn't have gone with that but never heard from them anyway.

Stay away, This is a total SCAM:
Totally overpriced service :$70 for a 15 min taxi drive from VCE airport to Venice island, that I took to secure a short connection.
"Welcome Pickup" informed me couple of hours earlier (While I was flying) that my pickup was canclled due to "high demand".
Another version is that they ask you a 20-40 Euros over charge when you arrive.
They basically take more payement that then can prodice. And select the highest bid when you are stuck (and I missed my connection..)

After contacting the customer support a week later, they offer a complimentary €15 Flex Coupon to use with their scam business. Thanks but no thanks.
These are service like this that perpetrate Italy bad reputation... Sad.

We had good luck just emailing our hotels in advance and asking them to arrange pick up. I’m pretty sure I read that advice on this forum or in Rick’s guidebook… The islands are small and the hotels have personal relationships (sometimes cousins!) with drivers. Never had a problem.
