Webmaster/Andrew

I would like to say thank you to the Webmaster, once again, for the warm welcome you have given to all of us. You has certainly set the stage for a thoughtful, kind exchange of ideas. I have yet to post a true question, but I am really glad to see all the expertise that is now available on this forum. I plan to post a couple of questions soon! Thank you, Andrew, for permitting us to get the TA drama out of our systems! Forward, ho!

Andrew and his team is/are awesome. It's nice to know there are actual folks moderating. Even though this forum is sponsored by Rick Steves Europe tour company, they tolerate a lot of chat about tour companies other than Rick's which is very kind of them. I also like that it stays travel focused and that there is intervention when things get political. Rick certainly makes no bones about his politics BUT here we are focused on travel and related things.

There is rarely drama/nastiness on the forum and it's easy just to not get involved in it and hit the "Report button". There is a 50 character limit so best to distill what you want to say.

I hope all the new people will also be active on forums other than Greece. It seems many of you live in Europe so input on your home areas is welcome too.

In the other thread someone mentioned using the All Topics view which is the best way to keep up with what is going on overall. Here is the forum home page and you can see the ALL TOPICS in blue. I have this bookmarked as I guess most of the regulars do as well.

Pam, I've been here for a couple of years now, well on Switzerland and France forums as well as Greece.

I must be slow because I can't find this All Topics blue button.

Help please.

I’ll keep an watch for any questions about the Yorkshire dales where I live, we get lots of visitors who enjoy hiking and the countryside, and recently lots of people from other countries who watch the TV series All Creatures Great and Small, about the vet James Herriot.

I am a newly arrived refugee from TA. Good to see some familiar names here. Looking forward to participating in a human-moderated foum!

Hi Nigel, I went llama trekking in Nidderdale, it certainly was an excellent activity. Looking to go “walking” alpacas in the spring using an all terrain mobility scooter, (no charge for renting this) in the very beautiful but undiscovered Trough of Bowland. JRR Tolkien went to school here and it’s thought he was inspired to create Middle Earth. Lots of excellent village pubs serving superb food and a Castle at Clitheroe. In July 2027 stage 2 of The Grand Depart of The Tour de France is passing through on their way to the finish on the historic waterfront at Liverpool, the city of my birth. I’ll stop now, I could talk about the area for ever!

Good to see you JBMED.

Thank you for the kind words! There are a lot of selfless, helpful, well-traveled people here - plus a few characters along the way ;) - who I know can help once you're ready with questions.

Cheers!

Andrew is a gem, and we certainly appreciate him! And I'm so glad to see all of you here!

Here's a quick note. I would imagine that for many of you, the icons directly above the text box will be easy to figure out, but if not, I would suggest reading the "Get Started" section. If you want to dig a bit deeper, scroll down to this link, which will give you more information about formatting. And if you want to go hog wild, click on the Markdown tutorial.

I also wanted to let you know that you're making me rethink Greece. The last time I was in Greece was in 1997, and it was not a great experience. For years I've been telling myself that I just didn't like Greece, but after seeing all the posts about it recently and then you all coming and talking about it, it's made me realize that maybe I should try it again. So I may be posting some questions in the future.

Mardee, you should definitely try Greece again. It is my favourite place in the world. The scenery, the food, the history, the beaches... I hope this does encourage you to give it another chance! I'm sure all the experts here can help ensure you have a wonderful time.

Mardee I’m another one to encourage you to
re-visit Greece. It’s a wonderful country, food, sights, people, and we only did the RSteves Greece tour. There’s much more I hope we can see some day.

Cat and Luv2travel, thanks for the encouragement! It’s weird because I’ve always thought that I would never like to return to Greece but then I remembered that I used to think that about Paris too. I was not that enamored of the city when I went the first time And then I went back after 25 years and fell in love with it.

I’m adding it to my list of future trips but it seems to be creeping its way quicker than others towards the top. So we’ll see. I’ll definitely be coming here for advice when I do decide!
