We are considering a trip to Greece. We would arrive in Santorini on September 18 for four nights. Then head to Naxos for four nights. Followed by 7 nights in Peloponnese and ending with 3 nights in Athens. I am wondering if it will still be "beach weather", especially for the first eight nights. I've read that the average temperature in September is 82 for days. Anyone have any experience on those islands for September 18 - 26?
Santorini can get windy and cloudy but not cold during the day. The evenings will be chilly when the wind is strong.
We were in Naxos last year. September 25th and 26th were gorgeous and sunny -- ideal beach weather. The 27th was cool and windy. The 28th started out gray and windy but then cleared up. We left mid-day on the 29th, which was another beautiful day.
We have found this weather pattern pretty common on previous trips to Greece at that time of year. Just be prepared with a light weatherproof jacket.
The climate throughout September in the Cyclades and Santorini is usually an ideal beach climate. The summer months have warmed the sea and some find it not cool enough.
It will probably be windy but anyway it is regularly windy in the Greek islands whatever the season.
Just something like a sweat-shirt or hoodie might be needed for the evening.
In the Peloponnese, depending on the weather, it can also be useful during the day in mountainous areas.
I go to Greece every year usually late September to early October and for the most part everywhere I've gone the weather is very nice. That includes islands in the North, Middle and Southern Aegean and the Peloponnese.
Sunny, blue skies, comfortable temperature and the Aegean still warm from the Summer heat. A bit of rain but no wash outs.
Last October I was in the Peloponnese for 13 days and for the first half it was very warm, above average tempertures and even a bit humid.
There was a cold front that came through with a big thunderstorm and then the weather became much more comfortable and pleasant.
If you look at averages for where you want to go you should get a good idea of what to expect.
Maybe I've been lucky with my 10 trips to Greece regarding the weather but I think the weather should be wonderful while you are there.
However, there is no guarantee what the weather will be like.
Thanks so much for the replies. I know no one can predict the weather, especially that far in advance, but it sounds like a go for me.
