Visiting the Argolid

I’m still missing Greece - we would have been in Andros now - and reading articles avidly.

Here’s a nice one with recommendations for the Argolid, the area around Nafplio. I know several of these places and agree with them that they’re worth a visit. Makes me look forward to going to the ones I don’t know.

Happy travels, eventually

Very nice.

The best website for Nafplio and the Argolid is:

I was scheduled to fly to Greece Sept. 30 but due to the EU banning Americans into the Union can't go.

Very disappointed but there's always 2021!

Tommy - sorry to hear that. We would probably have been there for a couple of weeks at Christmas and even that now looks unlikely.

I agree that Visit Nafplio is really good and well worth a look.

I don’t normally post links to my own site as it’s not mobile friendly, but for anyone with a PC who fancies a Greek hit we have some nice photos. (I can say this as they are all my partner’s work!)

And here’s to 2021 - I wish it would hurry up.

Thanks Stan. You’ve an excellent eye.

I particularly liked the ones of Corinth. It’s a while since we’ve been there.

Nice in Nafplio to see the Fanaria: a favourite taverna there which hasn’t changed much in over 25 years.

We were in Nafplio a number of years ago and used it as a base to explore the surrounding area.

The town itself is one of Greece's prettiest filled with character and charm. We stayed at a "hotel" just a few streets uphill with nice views of the water and Boutzi Castle.

Lots to do right in town with the Palamidi Castle to climb, back streets, lots of great tavernas. Even the "new town" is quite good where most locals do their everyday shopping.

Went to the Farmer's Market plus all the archeological/historic sites nearby.

Even did a day cruise to Hydra/Spetses with Pegasus Castle.

We used the bus exclusively which worked out fine back then.

We now rent a car any time in Greece which I highly recommend if you want to see the more traditional and out-of-the-way Greece.

I've seen your website before, quite good.

Let's all hope we can get back to normal soon and plan on another trip to Greece!

I would recommend, if you can stand the hot weather, going in late June or the month of July. The Epidaurus Festival will be presenting ancient Greek plays in the theatre at Epidaurus, a different one each weekend. I have seen two productions there and it is so wonderful to see the plays in a space where they were written to be performed.

Thanks for your kind words Alan. You are right about Taverna Fanaria. It is our favourite Taverna in Nafplio. We always make sure to eat there twice.
