Visiting the Acropolis - ticket help

Hi fellow travellers!

We are going to be in Athens on a weekend in early October, and we are trying to decide whether it's worth it buying a ticket in advance. Apparently, this is the legit site: https://hhticket.gr/tap_b2c_new/english/tap.exe?PM=P1P&place=000000002

Is it really necessary to buy in advance? We prefer to go with the flow and buy on the spot, but we obviously don't want to end up in a situation where we show up and there are no tickets left. Also, we keep on reading that even if you have purchased a ticket in advance, you'll still end up waiting in line with those who have not. If so, the case for buying in advance is weaker.

Finally, do you actually get no more than an hour up there? Everyone's recommending to allot 2-3 hours, but the tickets are being sold in 1-hour increments.

Would love to hear your opinions.

There is no risk that entry to the Acropolis will be sold out in early October.

You can buy your tickets on site either at the ticket counters or at the ticket machines.

You must go to the ticket counters even if you have purchased tickets in advance only when you have purchased reduced or free tickets on the website (in order to prove with an ID that you are eligible for free/reduced tickets)

the tickets are being sold in 1-hour increments.

The 1 hour increment corresponds to entry to the site but you can stay as long as you want (but not after closing!)
