From a quick scan, it seems like two popular views of Athens are from Strefi Hill vs. Mount Lycabettus - anyone has experience with either or both? Wondering which one I should put on my itinerary....thanks all!
For me it was definitely Lycabettus Hill!
Great views from Mt Lycabettus. (Didn't do Strefi Hill.) Note that the funicular up Mt Lycabettus is all underground, no view. For three of us, a taxi from Acropolis Select hotel was less expensive than three tickets on funicular. Still had a bit of a walk up to view point from the road. There was reasonably priced food at the restaurant at the top. We were there last October.
I'm with those who favour Lycanettus. There have been ongoing problems with drug addicts on Lofos Strefi and, while the authorities have been doing their best to control it, I'm not sure if they've totally stamped it out.
If you want to stop for lunch near Lycabettus the Dexamemi is a good bet

And in terms of views don't miss out on Filopappou. We've written a little about it here (second walk down)

Got it - thanks all for your input!
The hubby and I walked up Filopappos Hill at dusk and were on top for a fantastic sunset view of the Acropolis. It felt safe although it was isolated. As a pair it didn't really worry us. I would highly recommend this hill!!
