My husband, 19 year old daughter and I will be in Santorini on May 9 - May 13. We have the option of staying at Vedema Resort in the southern portion of the island or at Santa Maris Oia in the northern portion. Any advice on which location would be best? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

While I don't know Santo Maris Ola, we've stayed at Vedema and LOVED it. It is in the village of Megalohori which has some beautiful churches. Vedema isn't cramped and feels spread out. The buildings don't stand out but rather fit in perfectly with Megalohori; it is on a hill so don't expect walking around Vedema to be on level land. The hotel arranged for us to go horseback riding around the Caldera (volcano) to which the hotel is nearby. We were so happy there as this was a once-in-a-lifetime visit for us which is why we splurged.

Keep in mind that because Megalochori is a bit isolated you will be far removed from much of what Santorini has to offer. Oia has plenty of shops and restaurants, as well as a few mellow bars and cafes. Santo Maris has an unobstructed sunset view. Vedema has a very limited caldera view since it's inland in the middle of the village. I'm also seeing some misleading photos of Oia in the Vedema photo gallery, making it seem like it's located in the same sort of envronment you'll find in Oia.
