Using Bus trandsport Athens to port of Piraeus

Hi,
We will be traveling from Athens to the Port of Piraeus to catch a ferry to Hydra this summer. My husband and I will have 2 suitcases with us and hope to take bus #X96 to the port.
Does the bus have a storage place for suitcases (underneath), or will it be a problem with managing good sized suitcases onto the bus?

The X96 bus travels between Athens Airport and Piraeus. If you're in downtown Athens you want to take the #040 Bus from Syntagma Square or the Green Line Metro from the Monastiraki Metro Station. I don't know for sure but I don't think there is space for dedicated luggage storage. Beware of pocket pickers on the buses and Metro cars. Be hyper-vigilant and keep your bags close at hand.

If you are coming from the Airport, x96 is a good answer. Your luggage is piled Within the bus in a central "pen"'; very secure. No problem heaving heavy bags onto the bus, since it's right at the curb of the building. There is also good news (Finally!) of improved transport from Airport to Piraeus -- a direct RAIL LINK that supposedly began service February 1: http://www.ekathimerini.com/225143/article/ekathimerini/news/piraeus-port-getting-direct-rail-link-to-athens-airport
... this means you should be able to walk across the street in front of the airport building, go up the escalator to the Metro, and catch a Suburban train that goes directly to Pireaus, no changes. If you want information upon arrival, just go to the information desk in the Airport.
