We are wondering what it’s like on the ground and in Athens and Greece with the current US-Israel-Iran conflict. Is it safe? Are prices skyrocketing? Are their fuel shortages? We have to pay the remainder of our tour fees next week and want some reassurances. Not sure what to believe from the media or social media. Thanks!!!
I can offer you reassurances! The US consular information sheet for Greece has no current warnings, and, also, mainland Greece is not at all close to what is going on in the Middle East. Athens is about 800 miles from Israel-- that's the distance from New York City to Ohio. You'll be okay :)
When it comes to fuel-- I'm not in Greece, I live in Germany, and we have definitely seen price increases. Gas used to 1.70 euros/liter or so, and now it's over 2 euros a liter, which is pretty annoying. No fuel shortages, though...life in Europe putters along more or less as usual.
On that tour right now.
Everything is fine.
Given that the situation is evolving daily, I don't see how anyone could predict what it will be like in two months.
So far, in Greece as everywhere, it's mainly the price of fuel that has increased. Just as the price of jet fuel has increased, this may lead to an increase in ferry ticket prices.
As for safety, I don't really know what you're referring to, Greece is an extremely safe country.
You can find updates on the website of a reliable Greek newspaper, Ekathimerini.
