Two nights Athens Airport vicinity - before long stay in Athens

We fly in to the Athens airport in March a few days in advance of a long stay apartment rental in Athens. I am looking for a suggestion for a hotel or an area to stay that is easy to access from the airport. Our connection is tight, so I don't want to make plans to travel too far from the airport (1hr. is ok, but no ferry or other scheduled transport.)

Does anyone have a suggestion for an authentic town or hotel where we can relax for a few days and not spend the whole time traveling? We prefer more authentic hotel or small inn and not a resort. We will plan to travel to Athens after this short stay. Thank you!

The Hotel Avra in Rafina might fit the bill. They have a free shuttle from the airport which is reliable and takes around 30 minutes.. Rafina is a small port with ferries leaving mainly to the Cyclades. There are a couple of streets of shops plus a town square with several pleasant restaurants.

It’s not particularly exciting but the hotel is comfortable with a good breakfast and the town is quiet and has a local feel. We often spend a night there on the way to Andros.

You can get a bus direct back to Athens from just below the hotel.

Rafina is a nice port town 30 minutes from the airport. It's a lot more laid back than Athens.

The other hotel in Rafina is Coralli right in the town square. very clean and basic. No breakfast though an d no shuttle to airport. It is much cheaper than Avra though.
There is a bus from airport though if it fits with your times. About 30 mins from airport. If not you could use a car service like Welcome pickups to return to airport.
Lots of places both in port area and square to eat. Very local feeling.

Artemida, just south of Rafina, is another coastal town you could look at. Neo Makri, north of Rafina, is also worth a look.

Perhaps look at Sounion. South of the airport it has a lovely hotel on the water overlooking the ancient temple. It would be a lovely quiet place to relax for a few days.
