two family traveling with four children

We have never been to Greece or that part of world. Do anyone think it is a wise decision for two families traveling with four very enthusiastic children to go with self guided tour ? or go with tour group which won't allow us flexibilities if we would like to visit certain sight longer or shorter ? Welcome any suggestions !
We have option of going from 10 ~ 14 days on the trip.

Thank you

The Greeks love kids and we always met an enthusiastic and friendly response when travelling with one. It's pretty easy to get around on your own. People are used to tourists and a lot of them speak English. I'd certainly go for that option rather than a tour group.

Assuming the children are interested in castles then Nafplio might be worth considering as a base. It has a huge castle itself but also a small town beach, and better beaches nearby, for letting off steam. It also has a pedestrian street with restaurants which means children (depending on age) can wander a little while adults eat. Mycenae and Epidavrus are quite nearby if you and they are into sites.

Took my grandson to Greece as part of a Turkey/Greece trip. Spent 3 days in Athens (plenty of time to see the sites) then on to Nafplio...Loved it... it was an amazing place to stay...very laid back, but absolutely beautiful and a wonderful way to wind down and enjoy time together after the heat and intensity of Athens. He was 11 at the time and loved it.
