I am trying to schedule travel between Santorini and Milos for the first week of May next year, and i can't seem to find a ferry or flight that goes between the two islands. Is that right? I am flexible as to the order we go. Thank you.

You are early for both flights and ferries. There likely is no direct flight between the islands, probably one that flies from Santorini to Athens, then Athens to Milos. There is a ferry I believe that leaves Santorini and goes to the western Cyclades, maybe stops in Ios, Folegandros, and on to Milos.
Rome2Rio.com would be a good resource, or try some of the Greek ferry sites, but for this month. A schedule for this month would give a reasonable expectation for what might be available in May. Getting tickets though would be something months away.

This last early May, depending on the day, there were one, two or three ferries between Santorini and Milos. There's no reason to think things will be drastically different next year. Look here: http://www.openseas.gr/JTR/MLO/2022-05-03/2022-05-03/itineraries

As Lee told you, early May you will have daily ferries from Santorini to Milos.
Please note that May 1st is a day when ferries are traditionally on strike.
May 1 was a Sunday this year and the strike took place on Monday 2.
Anyway no need to book ahead, in May you will buy your ticket once in Santorini
