We will be arriving by ferry from Santorini to piraeus at 7:30 pm. Is there any way to still get a bus to nafphlio that night? It looks like I would need to take the metro to the bus station which is quite a distance unless there is a closer bus connection to the Port. If I fly it appears to be the same problem of traveling between the airport to the bus station and flights are expensive.
Easiest to rent a car Athens airport and drive there. Then you will have a car to explore the variety of antiquities in the surrounding area.
That seems to be the best option I am finding given the late hour that I am arriving. It seems like it is possible to rent a car in piraeus rather than going to the airport. Is it difficult to drive from the port and how is driving at night?
Consider flying from santorini to Athens instead. Then rent a car at airport. It will save you time and have you on the road earlier.
Personally, I would not want to drive at night in a foreign country but you might be more comfortable than I am with that.
A one way flight at this point would be over 100 eu since I am booking about a week in advance which is a lot for a 45 minute flight. Driving at night is not my first choice but I am sure I could do it. Do you think driving from the port would be more difficult than the airport. I wish there was transportation between piraeus and nafplio that was direct but that is obviously not the case.
