Transportation from Athens to Hydra

I need information on ferries leaving Athens to Hydra in October 2024, We plan on doing a day trip. Also, is it necessary to schedule the tour with a private company.

I think all the information you need can be found here. You can just buy ferry tickets and do it on your own or you could research tours with private companies if that's what you would prefer - check with TripAdvisor, Viator, Get Your Guide (and others) for day trips to Hydra (and some include Poros and/or Aegina, with very limited time on each island).

It's very easy to get a ferry to Hydra.

There are several daily which you can find tickets for at a number of websites.

You don't need to book ahead of time, especially for October but if you want peace of mind knowing you have a ticket when you get to the port you can purchase one online.

Here's a good website for Hydra including how to get there. Over to the right you'll see a list including ferries.

I wouldn't recommend one of the tours as they are three-island tours where you'll spend more time on a boat than on the islands, plus they are expensive.

You can go direct to Piraeus from Athens either by bus, Metro or a private transfer. Go to Gate 8 and you can purchase a ticket there.

Leave in the morning, spending several hours on the island and return late afternoon and you'll still have plenty of time for a night out in Athens.
