Transportation and accommodations

Looking for a few suggestions please

1.transportation from Athens to Napfilo and back

2.accommodations in Napfilo for 2 nights (2 adults & 18yr) nothing fancy needed.

We will be taking day trip from Athens to Delphi day prior so should we rent a car? Was thinking of doing the bus trip to Delphi but maybe car would be better to have flexibility.

  1. Accommodations close to Athens airport as we have very early departure flight back home. We are staying at Airbnb while in Athens but a bit far from airport.

I highly recommend renting a car as there are so many antiquities surrounding Napflion . Pick up rental car at Athens airport as it puts you on the highway to Napflion. This is a beautiful area to explore.

Another possibility is to take a tour from one of the travel agencies in Rick's book. We did this to see Mycenae and Epidaurus and then spent two nights in Nauflio.

Would help a lot if you can be specific about WHEN you plan this ... advice may differ greatly, May vs. August vs October

We were going to start in Athens but if we are going to pick up a car at airport then we should order start in Napfilo for 2 nights then Delphi and end in athens. That sound better. We have Airbnb that is all walkable in athens as it is our friends so no need for car so want to save $ on rental days.

Suggestions on where to stay in Napfilo?

Flight arrives in Athens April 3rd 12:30pm local time (will be tied from long flight so this day is a wash). Depart crack of dawn April 10th hence looking for place to stay near Athens airport night of 9th. Thanks!

If anyone knows about how long it would take to drive from airport to Napfilo that would be helpful. I can’t seem to find info.

For Nafplio the best is to rent a car. From Athens downtown or Athens Airport you will be there in less than 2 hours.

Last May, in Nafplio we stayed at
Chara's studio under Palamidi castle. It can accommodate 4 people.
It's not in the old town but that was on purpose. It's a 15 minute walk to the old town and there are some good restaurants close by which are less of a tourist trap than those in the old town.

The trip Athens → Delphi takes 2h30 minimum by car and 3 hours minimum by bus, in my opinion that's a lot of travel time for not much time on site.

I usually have a flight around 8am from Athens and I always stay in Athens the last night.
Leaving around 5 a.m. the journey Athens → Airport takes about 45 minutes by taxi.

Why would I change accommodation and go get lost in an uninteresting suburb just to save 15 minutes by being closer to the airport? So I can enjoy one last evening in Athens.

Especially since if you have to change accommodation you will have to check out before 11am, it's not just one evening that you lose but almost the whole day.

That being said, there is the Sofitel hotel at the airport. you are 5 minutes from the check-in counters, but the price of the room is over 200€.

JoLui-yes now that we probably will go from airport to Napfilo then to Athens it would make sense to just keep same AirBNB. I didn’t realize how close airport was so thanks. Renting a car seems better option for timing as well.

JoLui-thanks for the Airbnb recommendation! Looks perfect

As I told you, it's a personal choice, the apartment is very comfortable, quiet, with a dedicated parking space and at around 80€ per night (low season). But don't forget it's a 15 minute walk to the old town. Maybe you'd rather be in the old town

If it is not bookable on Airbnb, it is also available on booking.com

Anyway, it's too early for April.

How about accommodations in Delphi? Thinking with driving from N would be good to stay over there as well instead of day trip.
